Best sick food ever!

So you are feeling sick? Going for chicken soup? I recommend putting this on the stove immediately instead.

Okayu, in Japanese, or congee, in Chinese is essentially rice porridge. It is good for colds, flu, upset stomachs and has less salt than soup!

I woke up with a scratchy throat this morning and it went down hill from there. I’m hoping I didn’t catch the office crud, but I had something for sure.

This stuff is SO comforting. I sprinkled some nori komi furikake (dried seaweed, sesame, salt rice seasoning) over the top and added a dollop of chili garlic paste to numb the sore throat. Cold remedy served!

1 cup brown rice
5 cups water

Boil slowly until porridge consistency, adding more water if needed.
